Australia Day is no excuse to litter

AUSTRALIANS hoping to celebrate in public places this Australia Day have been urged not to leave litter behind.

After more than 22 tonnes of rubbish were collected after New Year's Eve at Brisbane's Southbank, Keep Australia Beautiful has urged people to keep it clean.

KAB chief executive Peter McLean said the campaign wanted all Australians to "do the right thing this Australia Day long weekend" and put their rubbish in bins.

"There's no excuse to be a bin bludger either. If you can't find one, bag it and take it with you," Mr McLean said.
