Australia drops out of top 10 anti-corruption countries

CALLS for a national anti-corruption body have been bolstered by a new report showing Australia has slipped out of the top 10 countries for "clean" reputations.

The Transparency International report shows Australia fell from 10th to 11th this year, down four positions since 2012 in the ranking of 175 countries on corruption perceptions.

Corruption and governance expert, Griffith University Professor AJ Brown, said a stronger national anti-corruption body was needed to prevent corruption, outside the criminal investigation system.
