THE Australia Zoo crew is mourning the loss of Siam, the Asian elephant.

At almost 60 years of age, Siam was the oldest elephant in Australia.

She had spent the past decade in retirement at Australia Zoo alongside Bimbo and Sabu.

On Monday night, Siam was grazing in acreage at the back of the zoo with Bimbo and Sabu as she does every evening.

Siam passed away suddenly that evening from kidney failure and was found in the early hours on Tuesday morning.

Due to Siam's age, Australia Zoo had been monitoring her health, but there was no indication of any kidney problem.
