A SYDNEY man had a very lucky escape after he fainted onto tracks at Wynyard Station as a train was heading towards him.

The incident happened earlier in September but the footage has only just emerged and was shown last night on 7 News.

The man, dressed in blue, can be seen falling onto the tracks while other passengers watch on in horror.

Staff at the station rush quickly to his aid, as do other passengers. Six men jumped onto the tracks to help the man.

While staff frantically tried to contact train drivers approaching the station, another staff member in an orange vest got the train driver's attention and radios ahead.

The train eventually pulled up just short of the platform.

Sydney Trains told 7 News if it wasn't for the customer service officer who raised his hands in the emergency stop position then the six men helping the sick man would have been in danger.

The man suffered just a cut to his head and some bruising to his shoulder in what was a lucky escape.
