Australia's Ashes victory a winner for Nine in ratings

ALMOST 10 million people have tuned in to watch the past three Ashes Tests - and watch Australia reclaim the Ashes.

The figure represent 61% of the population in the metro markets and almost the same in regional markets, Nine said in a statement on Wednesday.

This year's Third Test is up 43.4% on the Third Test of last year and up 29.7% on the Third Test of the last Ashes in 2010.

The 2013/14 Ashes series already boasts four of the top ten sessions of all time for television audiences of Test Cricket in Australia, Nine said.

Nine is hoping the audience will be maintained despite the fact that Australia has already won.

"These record audience figures suggest there will be continuing intense interest in the Ashes battle, and particularly whether Australia can achieve a 5-0 whitewash in the series in the two great amphitheatres of cricket in Melbourne and Sydney,'' Nine said.

Breaking down the fifth and final day of the Third Test (Tuesday, December 17, 2013) - a peak audience of nearly 2 million people watched Australia play England at the WACA - finishing before the tea break.
