Baby miracle: birth was a surprise
NEW mother Anne Coveney experienced a harrowing miracle when she delivered her own baby at home.
Mrs Coveney and her husband Matthew have a unique story to tell following the surprise delivery of their son Aaryn Rex on Wednesday morning.
“We were not planning to have him at home, I had a textbook pregnancy up until this happened,” Mrs Coveney said.
“At first I thought I was just having a lot of pelvic pain and the baby was getting ready for labour.”
Mrs Coveney said her pain then began to increase and became nearly unbearable.
“My husband was holding me over the bed and next thing my water breaks, the sack comes out and there was a baby on our bed,” Mrs Coveney said.
“All of a sudden we had a baby there just like that.
“It was freaky, we could not believe it. Here I am sitting on the bed surrounded by a pool of blood with this baby.”
The shocked couple then called an ambulance for help.
“They told us to clear his nose and mouth and make sure he took his first breath,” she said.
“I just held him close to me until the ambulance arrived.”
The couple and their new son were then taken to Murwillumbah District Hospital.
“It was scary when that baby hit the bed, we did not expect that at all,” Mrs Coveney said.
“But we are in great health even though he was born two weeks premature, he is just beautiful.”
Mrs Coveney has some advice for expectant mothers following her traumatic delivery.
“Trust your instincts and don't expect your labour to be like it is in the books,” the proud mother said.
“It was scary but it was awesome to look at his face for the first time.
“It's a good story to tell.”
