Bad weather adds extra eight hours to Coolangatta flight
A FLIGHT from Tokyo to Coolangatta was delayed eight hours and diverted to Brisbane due to bad weather.
According to a News Limited report, the Jetstar plane would have been able to land on schedule if Gold Coast Airport had the necessary Instrument Landing System.
Instead the passengers had to jump on a bus from Brisbane to the Gold Coast to make their final destination.
The flight had been due to land at 6.25am, but passengers didn't make the Gold Coast until 3pm on Thursday.
The weather had been rainy and cloudy.
The report, by journalist Andrew Potts, said the landing system is still about a year away from being installed after the Federal Government committed $10 million.
Airport boss Paul Donovan confirmed the flight had been delayed but denied a landing had been aborted, the report states.
