Local film causing a buzz
IF behind the scene shots are anything to go by, a new 3D action movie being partly shot in Coolangatta will have moviegoers on the edge of their seats.
Bait 3D has been on location in Coolangatta this week shooting scenes for the upcoming film.
The film follows a group of tsunami survivors trapped inside a flooded supermarket with a pack of man-eating sharks hot on their heels.
Recently released photos of stars include shots of Julian McMahon, of the popular Nip/Tuck TV show, in a balaclava, as well as scenes between Phoebe Tonkin, from the recently released film Tomorrow, When The War Began and Alex Russell, from Wasted on the Young.
The film is being directed by Kimble Rendall, who worked on Ghost Rider, I Robot and Matrix Reloaded and Russell Mulcahy, who was involved with Resident Evil: Extinction.
Paramount Pictures CEO Mike Selwyn said the film would take the 3D reality of the shark attack to the next level.
“We are delighted to be working with such an exciting team on Bait 3D,” Mr Selwyn said. “It is particularly pleasing to see such a high profile young Australia cast who have all had great success recently in commercially successful releases.”
Gold Coast City Council economic development committee chairwoman Susie Douglas said she hoped the film would build on the success the Gold Coast had hosting the film The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
“After a small incentive was offered to the producers of The Chronicles, a section of the Investment Attraction Program was specifically targeted to attract film and television projects.”
