Ballet class with master dancer
INTERNATIONALLY acclaimed ballet dancer, teacher and adjudicator Wim Broeckx visited Tweed Heads yesterday to inspire a new generation of dancers.
Mr Broeckx paid a visit to the Fiona Munroe Ballet and Dance Studio and took a lucky group of young dancers through a master class.
The dancing superstar is the artistic director of The Prix de Lausanne, a one-of-a-kind international competition for dancers aged 15 to 18. Mr Broeckx said he was impressed with the level of talent on display at the studio.
“It's been a really nice day; the students have picked things up very quickly,” Mr Broeckx said.
“I'm in Australia to adjudicate at the McDonalds Sydney Eisteddfod.”
Mr Broeckx has enjoyed a long and successful career with three international ballet companies, most notably the Dutch National Ballet, where he rose to principal dancer before becoming the assistant artistic director.
Ms Munroe said it was an honour to have such a well-known identity visit Tweed Heads.
“The students have been very responsive to the class,” Ms Monroe said.
“It's been a great experience and it's great for them to know what they have been learning is the same as what is taught in the international world.”
Taking advantage of the class were dancers Claire Hamilton and Aaron Shaw, who will leave for Germany next week to continue their dance training.
The Northern Rivers Youth Ballet Company will perform at the Lismore City Hall tomorrow.
