Bangers snag state honour
WE ALL know the Southern Downs has some of the best, most fertile land in the country.
We have some of the most productive farms in the state which produce prime cattle.
And when it comes to Downs beef, there is now another trophy to adorn the mantelpiece.
At the weekend Carey Bros claimed the top prize in the Australian Meat Industry Council state competition for their beef sausages.
"We're very humbled by the win," Paul Carey said.
"It's so highly contested and everyone wants to win in the beef category.
"We're very excited to be going to the national finals in Sydney."
Mr Carey said their success was a testament to our local farmers.
"We source all of our produces from the locals," he said.
"They consistently turn out good quality produce.
"We don't have to add any spices to our sausages to get great flavour. The flavour comes from the meat itself."
Mr Carey said Denis Bourke, from McDougall and Sons, helped choose the cattle and pigs.
"Denis is really great; he is a very important part of our business."
"It's been a great year for us and I feel very privileged to be part of such a well-known family business.
The national finals for the AMIC will be held in February next year.
