Banking to a Rihanna beat

WHERE can you conduct weekly transactions while rocking out to your favourite tunes? At the bank of course.

For those who can think of nothing more boring than standing in line at the bank, one branch has the answer.

NAB Mackay store manager Nina Hall has completely transformed the Sydney and Victoria St bank into a bit of a party hub for its customers with the addition of a jukebox.

The music machine was introduced to the bank about three weeks ago and Ms Hall said customers and staff loved it.

"It's been a big hit ... customers love it," she said.

"It took a bit for customers to know it was there and start using it."

Now customers sing while queuing up to see a teller, people have a dance in the foyer and she might be the boss, but Ms Hall has also embraced the jukebox.

"I'm certainly one of the ones that belts out some line from a song," she said, adding especially when a Guns N' Roses song fills the bank.

"The staff tell me not to give up my day job," she laughed.

"We have even had people come in to have a look (at the jukebox) who don't actually bank NAB."

Ms Hall said she wants her branch to sit more in the retailer's space than the financial sector.

"I just thought everyone loves music and everyone loves a jukebox," she said.

"It gives them something to do. They can scroll through and pick a song."

But be wary of what you choose, with song selection often a laughing point for those in the bank.

Ms Hall said she couldn't believe it when someone chose Dean Martin's That's Amore.

The jukebox, which was hired from the Jazz Party Hire company, was part of NAB trying to distinguish itself and break away from other banks.

"Our goal is to be the best retailer in town and one of the big things obviously is the queues," she said.

"And when you walk into a bank, it always feels like a bank.

"The jukebox was to give customers something to do and play with while they were handing out in the bank."

That's as well as changing the feel and ambience of the store, which is quite large, Ms Hall said.

Lining up at this bank has gone from boring to fun.

"We turn it up louder depending on who's in the store," Ms Hall said.
