Banned driver caught behind wheel
A MAN disqualified from driving until 2016 was charged after he was caught behind the wheel of an unregistered car with stolen number plates.
Tweed police were conducting patrols of a South Tweed car park on Minjungbal Dr about 4.10pm on Thursday when they spotted a Holden Commodore being driven by a known disqualified driver.
Initial attempts to stop the vehicle failed and police located it a short time later in a nearby car park. Police spoke to the driver and confirmed he had previously been disqualified from driving until May 2016.
Checks of the Queensland number plates revealed they had been stolen from an automotive shop in Tweed Heads South last month.
A 30-year-old man was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with drive while disqualified, use unregistered vehicle, use uninsured vehicle, goods in custody and vehicle displaying unauthorised number plates.
He was granted bail to appear in Tweed Heads Local Court on April 18.
