Banora blasts to triple crown
BANORA Point High School’s Tyler Christensen was launching rockets ongoal at the Interschool In-Line Hockey Tournament at Epic Skaterink onFriday.
The Year 8 student and his school team proved too strong for KingscliffHigh in the final of the four-school competition, banging home thedeciding goal in the dying seconds to win 3-2 and secure the title.
Undefeated throughout the tournament, the win gave Banora Point its third straight title crown.
Wedidn’t have quite as many students playing as last year (due to theshort term), but it was still an exciting four-team competition betweenKingscliff, Tweed River and Banora Point High Schools, and a mixed teamof students from Lindisfarne and St Joseph’s.
After each team hadplayed each other once, the undefeated Banora team finished on top, ahead of Kingscliff, the mixed side and TRH in fourth.
The finalwas contested between Kingscliff and Banora, with the first-placefinishers again proving too strong and claiming the title 3-2.
Inthe closest and most exciting finish in the competition’s three-yearhistory, the game was locked at 2-2 until the final minute, when thehost team got up.
It was Banora’s third successive victory.
All games were fair, with fantastic sportsmanship, respect, and team spirit, and commitment - I was so impressed.
Wemust also thank Leanne from Epic, who I couldn’t have organised itwithout, and to our referee and scorer for the day, Dave and Chris.
"Weare going to try and organise the competition again for term three nextyear, so more students nd schools will have the opportunity toparticipate.
