Banora Point man on child sex charges

A 71-year-old Banora Point man has been charged over the sexual assault of three female relatives, with claims the attacks began more than 30 years ago.

Tweed Heads detectives Tuesday night told the Tweed Daily News that they had charged the man following an extensive investigation into the alleged attacks.

The charges against the man include historical sexual assault and indecent assault.

According to Detective Senior Constable Tim Young, the alleged attacks occurred in Sydney.

Det Snr Const Young said it is also alleged that the assaults were carried out over a period of time between 1972 and 1986.

All three women were under the age of 14 at the time these assaults were said to have taken place.

The man was given conditional bail yesterday afternoon.

He is due to appear in Tweed Heads Local Court to face these charges on March 9.

It is not known exactly for how long the man had been under investigation for or when the allegations were raised with police.

Another detective spoken to by the Tweed Daily News yesterday said he could not comment any further on the case.
