Barbarians take it up to rivals

CURRUMBIN'S Barbarians dominated the penultimate round of the aussieBUM Queensland Cup surf boat series on Saturday.

The Barbarians, along with club mates the Huskels, went through all four qualifying rounds undefeated to reach the final.

Second-placed BMD Northcliff had no answer to the Barbarian's superior boat speed in the final, but managed to separate the two Currumbin teams, with the Huskels finishing third.

It's been an outstanding season for the Huskels who this time last year were competing in reserve grade.

Bluey Bacon kept his Metropolitan Caloundra White boat on course to finish fourth and be the leading Sunshine Coast boat home.

The cross winds played a large part in the misfortunes of home favourites Mooloolaba Mongoose who were disqualified for missing the buoy when turning out at sea.

Not that the Mongoose unit was the only crew to have the buoy pop up on the wrong side of the boat while turning.
