Christmas message from Tweed Mayor Barry Longland

I WOULD like to take the opportunity to convey my best wishes and those of the councillors to all the readers of the Daily News.

It has been a year of challenge and achievement for the council and the organisation.

We have delivered on some of the "big ticket" infrastructure items for our residents while continuing to maintain our focus on the services that are expected by our community.

These include close attention to the protection of our unique environment, the formulation of improved social and cultural policy and a fresh and innovative approach to economic development in the Shire.

Throughout the year, the council has remained focussed on its responsibilities to our community and I look forward to continuing to lead a culture of continuous improvement into 2014.

A Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year to all Tweed residents.

- Barry Longland
