Batten down the hatches for gale force winds
4.30PM: THE updated warning for gale force winds for the Coffs Coast is in effect until at least tomorrow.
The information from the Bureau of Meteorology this afternoon is exactly as it was earlier today.
Gale force winds for the Coffs Coast and Byron Bay Coast are expected to cause damage for the next 24 hours.
12.30PM: IT'S been threatening for a few days but now it's time for the Coffs Coast to prepare for some terrible weather.
As if the 42mm of rain in the 24 hours to midday today wasn't bad enough, now the strong winds are on their way.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning for gale force winds to lash the Coffs Coast this afternoon and tonight.
Currently there's a high pressure system north of the Great Australian Bight which is extending a ridge across western and southeastern NSW and a low pressure trough with a low within it lies off the north coast.
The trough will move away from the coast during Tuesday and Wednesday as the high strengthen the ridge over the Coffs Coast and Northern Rivers region.
A cold front is expected to cross the state during Thursday and Friday.
SES staff advise people to:
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees
- Keep clear of fallen power lines.
The next wind warning update from the Bureau of Meteorology is due at 4pm.
