Batten down the hatches: Severe thunderstorn warning
IT appears our dry and dusty shire will finally get some much-needed rain.
But it's likely we'll also have to contend with some accompanying adverse weather conditions.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe thunderstorm warning on Tuesday at 12.44pm, warning of damaging wind and large hailstones.
Tweed was not listed as at risk, but Lismore, in the neighbouring Richmond Shire, has been earmarked as a location which may be affected by the storm.
It is recommended that Tweed residents also take precautions.
The State Emergency Service has warned people to:
Move your car under cover or away from trees.
Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
Keep clear of fallen power lines.
Unplug computers and appliances.
Avoid using the phone during the storm.
Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
Ring the SES on 132 500 for emergency help in floods and storms.
The next bureau warning is due to be issued by 3:45pm DST. For more information visit bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 218.
