Battle honours late musician

THE ultimate tribute was paid to the late Matthew Buchanan, who lost his battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma this year, with a battle of the bands held in his honour last week.

The Currumbin man was an eager musician who had plans to host battle of the bands competitions for school-aged kids to help boost their confidence and break into the industry.

In his memory, his friends put together a battle of the bands in Palm Beach last week, with Gold Coast band Hand of the Architect crowned the winning act.

Friend Ryan Bowles said the event was the perfect way to honour his mate.

“Battle of the bands was his dream,” Mr Bowles said.

“He really wanted to give kids a place to play music and the chance to get their songs recorded.”

Hand of the Architect vocalist Walther Torres said the band had decided to give away the prize.

“We have already recorded an EP so we gave the recording prize to the runners-up in the spirit of the battle,” Mr Torres said.
