Beaches closed due to weather

GOLD Coast City Council has closed beaches today with weather conditions continuing to deteriorate.

It is the second day the council has closed beaches.

NSW lifeguards also closed Salt at Kingscliff and warned everyone to stay off the beaches because of the big swell and strong rips.

Marine Rescue Point Danger recorded wave up to 5.9 metres overnight off the headland.

The Gold Coast council warned of strong winds, a heavy swell and poor visibility right along the coast, from Coolangatta to South Stradbroke Island.

A council spokesman said council lifeguards and beach maintenance staff were monitor surf and beaches conditions.
