Beams to face old club first up in new season

COLLINGWOOD will not be short on motivation for its opening match of the 2015 season, with the Magpies set to take on former club best-and-fairest Dayne Beams (pictured) and the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on April 4.

The memory of the last time the teams met will also no doubt still be fresh in the minds of the Collingwood players - Brisbane won by 67 points in the round 21 clash at the MCG.

In other first-round matches, Carlton and Richmond will open the season at the MCG on Easter Thursday, April 2, with no matches scheduled for Good Friday.

Apart from the Lions v Magpies match, Saturday will see Melbourne host the Gold Coast, the Swans at home to Essendon, and the Western Bulldogs hosting West Coast. Sunday's games are: St Kilda v GWS, Crows v Kangaroos and Dockers v Port. Hawthorn and Geelong will complete the round on Easter Monday. The full draw will be released next Thursday.
