Beau gains quest berth
HE WAS not sure of his singing abilities at first, but blew away the judges in his Palm Beach Youth Music Venture (PBYMV) audition.
And now Beau Maynard, 19, from Currumbin Valley will take the stage during the Currumbin RSL's Raw Talent Quest.
Mr Maynard said he would showcase his acoustic pop-style influenced by John Mayer and Jack Johnson with confidence and a simple enjoyment of his craft.
“It'd be great to be a successful musician, but enjoying it is my main goal,” he said.
“I've been getting gigs and private functions, so I've got a small cash-flow coming in.”
The RSL is calling for applications, which close on May 19, from dancers, musicians, singers, DJs, stage actors, comedians, fire-twirlers, martial artists and other individuals and groups.
The event will take place during June and July and is designed to give live perform- ance artists of all ages and styles the opportunity to showcase their talent in the local community and win cash and prizes.
Mr Maynard said the PBYMV was a volunteer group of musicians who taught talented youths to work in a band and then hosted a concert for them.
“I've been through the program and now I teach the new kids coming through,” he said.
“If you enjoy music and you're good at it, why not get involved?”
RSL marketing manager Laura Versace said one artist will gain automatic entry through a “people's choice”.
“Basically all the videos will be uploaded to our Facebook page and the video that receives the most ‘likes' will gain automatic entry into the competition,” Ms Versace said.
“We have had a great response so far from performers.”
