Behind scenes look at hospital
THE Currumbin Wildlife Hospital will throw its doors open to the public for the first time this Saturday.
Visitors are invited to tour the facility and get a feel for the vital work performed there.
Senior vet Michael Pyne said he hoped the open day would raise awareness of the huge effort that went into treating, rehabilitating and releasing animals back to the wild.
“It's a great opportunity for people to see the work done here. I don't think many people realise the efforts that we go to and how difficult it is to get the wildlife back where they belong,” he said.
The hospital – which treated 6500 thousand animals in the past year, a number that is increasing by about 1000 animals every year – is struggling to find the $300,000 required to keep running at its current level.
People can experience behind the scenes tours of the hospital, breeding and rehabilitation facilities.
Entry is from 9am-1pm at the hospital entrance at 27 Miller Dr, Currumbin.
