Big scope for kids in community awards

WAYNE Deeth, project manager of Max Potential youth leadership program, is hoping his teens can take home more than a few awards at Council's Kids in Community gala ceremony.

Mr Deeth has been working with Tweed youth on a number of regional projects, from community gardens to visiting nursing home residents.

"We have worked with the kids over six months to develop their personal leadership so they can make a contribution to their community," Mr Deeth said.

"Some of the kids have made an impact on hundreds of people with projects with big scope.

"Our projects hit a number of the award categories spot on."

With award categories such as caring for others, serving our community and enriching community life open for nomination Mr Deeth was confident his teens would make quite a splash.

Mayor of Tweed Barry Longland is looking forward to celebrating the achievements of inspiring young members of the Tweed community.

"There's no age limit on caring, leadership, advocacy and creativity and many of our young people are strengthening and inspiring others through their contributions," he said.

"Whether they're assisting the homeless, enriching our culture through creative pursuits or inspiring others through their leadership, our young people are helping to building a better future.

"I encourage any young person who's making a difference in their community to enter these awards or to nominate someone they know."

Nominations for fourth annual Kids in Community Awards close on September 20 and the gala awards ceremony will be held at Twin Towns Services Club on November 20.

Award nominees must be aged between 13 and 25.

Nomination forms are available at local high schools, Murwillumbah and Kingscliff TAFE, Pottsville Beach

Neighbourhood Centre, Tweed Heads PCYC, Murwillumbah Youth Centre and the Southern Cross Credit Union.
