Big welcome for Americans

IN one of the biggest local Rotary functions in years, Rotary club members from around the Tweed and further afield joined together on Tuesday night to welcome visiting professionals from the United States.

Eight young professionals in two teams from Missouri and Arizona chaperoned by two American Rotary Club leaders were welcomed to the Tweed at the Tumbulgum Tavern by 140 local Rotarians.

Their five-week visit is part of an exchange program between clubs here and the United States, but club members said it was unusual for the exchange visits by two groups hosted by different local Rotary Clubs to occur simultaneously.

The event gave Rotarians from Gold Coast to Ballina, including Murwillumbah, Murwillum- bah Central., Mt Warning AM, Tweed Coast, Tweed Heads South and the Coolangatta/Tweed clubs a reason to get together for the momentous welcome.
