Biggest rodeo rides into coast

THE countdown is on to the nation’s biggest rodeo event to be held on the Gold Coast next month.

The Australian Professional Rodeo Association (APRA) National Finals Rodeo will be held indoors for the third consecutive year at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre over four days and nights from January 7 to 10.

According to National Finals Rodeo coordinator John Osborne, the ‘cream of the crop’ has qualified for places at the Australian championships.

“The national finals are a huge event in our sport and we’re leaving no stone unturned to make January’s rodeo on the Gold Coast the best yet,” Mr Osborne said.

“The all-weather rodeo is quintessentially country, but indisputably Gold Coast in its presentation.

“And, in what’s possibly bad news for the competitors, we’ve spent the past year searching for meanest bulls and broncos in the land, and we’ve found them.”

The cowboys and cowgirls compete in six events – bareback bronc riding, steer wrestling, barrel racing, saddle bronc riding, team roping and bull riding at the event, which is the grand finale of the APRA season.
