Car strikes and injures bike rider

A CYCLIST is in a serious condition with head and upper torso injuries after being struck by a car in Mermaid Waters on Boxing Day.

Police are investigating the incident which occurred about 4.15pm.

The 24-year-old male cyclist was riding east on Duet Drive when he entered the T-intersection with Sunshine Boulevard.

The cyclist rode into the path of a station wagon travelling on Sunshine Boulevard.

He was taken to Gold Coast Hospital in a critical condition.

Police believe the cyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
