1. Paws for the RSPCA
RSPCA's biggest fundraising event is back. In its 20th year, the 2014 Million Paws Walk is the most important event on the canine calendar. This year's Million Paws Walk will be held on Sunday at Jack Bayliss Park, Marine Pde, Kingscliff. On the day, you and your four-legged friend will be treated to entertainment, displays, stalls, giveaways and a host of other activities. The Million Paws Walk is a great day out for the whole family while raising funds for animals in need.
2. Fun at the fire station
Fire stations at Murwillumbah, Tweed Heads, Banora Point and Kingscliff will be open to the public on Saturday from 10am to 2pm. It's part of a statewide Fire and Rescue Open Day. At Murwillumbah Fire State, it will be a great opportunity for families to meet their local firefighters and learn about safety. The station has planned station tours and presentations, including a vehicle rescue demonstration where they'll be cutting a car open and showing different release options.
3. Voices raise up
Chillingham Voices Choir presents a concert about ladies including songs such as O Mistress Mine, Fair Phyllis, Red Red Rose and Aretha Franklin and Jersey Boy medleys. The concert will be held in the All Saints Anglican Church, Murwillumbah on Sunday. Phone Brian, 02 66791190
4. Costa visits garden club
Murwillumbah and District Garden Club will host a Friendship Day on Sunday at the Murwillumbah Showgrounds from 9am-2pm. Stalls with information and products for sale of a wide variety will be on display. Fertilisers, orchids, succulents, pottery, water saving gardens, plants and others will be among the stalls. Guest speakers include Ian Brown of Boyds Bay Garden Centre, Costa Georgiadis host of Gardening Australia and Greg James of Farmers Organics. Entry is $5.
5. Suit up for cycle event
Battle on the Border; Tour De Tweed and Tweed Gran Fondo are competitive and social cycling events on this weekend. If you are not a member of Cycling Australia don't worry - the Tweed Gran Fondo is for you. It's a mass participation event which caters for anyone who enjoys a pedal. The course varies in degrees of difficulty and is a non-competitive bike ride with distances ranging from 60-160km. More info online at battleontheborder.com.au.
