Bilambil illicit drug lab bust
A BILAMBIL Heights man has been charged after police uncovered a clandestine drug lab yesterday morning.
About 8.10am, police attached to the Tweed Byron Drug Unit attended a home on Broadwater Esplanade, Bilambil Heights.
Inside the home they allegedly found a hydroponic cannabis set-up and also evidence of drug manufacture.
The 47-year-old resident was arrested at the scene.
He was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with manufacture prohibited drug, possess drug manufacture apparatus to make prohibited drug, cultivate prohibited plant, and possess prohibited drug.
Specialist police flew up from Sydney and assisted in the dismantling of the drug set up yesterday.
He was granted conditional bail to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court on November 22. Tweed Byron Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Shane Diehm, said the arrest was part of an on-going attack on drug supply in the area.
“Through the recently established Tweed Byron Drug Unit police will continue to attack drug supply in the area,” Det Insp Diehm said.
“I encourage anyone with information concerning drug-related activity to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or the Tweed Byron Command.”
