'Bits and pieces' outfit a winner
JESS Stafford's obvious joy in winning the Best Dressed Lady prize in the Tweed City Shopping Centre Fashions on the Field at the Murwillumbah Melbourne Cup Day yesterday thrilled the big crowd which packed the grandstand and the lawn to witness all the action.
Ms Stafford couldn't contain her surprise and delight in being judged as the best of the best by the judges, Tweed City Shopping Centre's Kathryn Mills (centre manager), Megan Cannellon (marketing manager) and Joanne Wood (marketing assistant).
"Oh my gosh, I've never done anything like this before, wow," the exuberant young lady gushed.
When asked where she purchased her charming blue outfit, Ms Stafford, shyly replied, "I picked up bits and pieces everywhere - I think I bought the dress up in Mackay."
The field for the Best Dressed Lady more than matched the size of the field which lined up later in the day in the Melbourne Cup.
Tweed Heads' Mark Morlock was a clear-cut winner of the Best Dressed Man with his 1930s gangster suit.
Other award winners were: Best Headdress, Kathy Wright (Palm Beach); Best Dressed Couple, Joe Walker (Round Mtn) and Kylie Keegan (Banora Pt); Best Dressed Children, Billie Johnstone (Ballina) and Findlay Baker (Casuarina).
