Blaze looking to extend win streak
IT WILL be an all-Queensland affair tonight when the red-hot Gold Coast Blaze wings its way up to Cairns to take on an improving Cairns Taipans.
The Blaze has the league's longest active win streak at three games, and has also won four of its past five. The Taipans have won their past two games and are knocking on the door of the top four.
Normally so hard to beat when playing at home, where their record is 105-88, the Taipans are just 2-2 in Cairns so far this season.
The Blaze, meanwhile, has been the best of any team on the road so far this season, with just one loss and two wins to date.
These two teams faced off earlier this season in round two, with the Taipans scoring a 91-82 road victory. The Blaze had no answer to Andrew Warren that night as he scored 29 points, while Will Hudson top-scored for the Blaze with 23.
Overall, the Taipans have a 9-7 edge in their head-to-head record against the Blaze.
The Blaze's all-time scoring leader, James Harvey, needs to score just 29 more points to become the first Gold Coast player to score 2000 points for the club.
He currently sits on 1971, and is well ahead of teammate Adam Gibson (694), who sits in second place on the team's all-time scorers list.
