Bleijie defends Premier over 'hired guns' lawyers snipe
THE Queensland premier shouldn't apologise for claiming bikies' lawyers are part of their "criminal machine" because he was taken out of context, his attorney-general says.
Campbell Newman caused outrage in legal circles after he was quoted this week as saying lawyers who defend bikies are "hired guns" who belong to a "criminal gang machine".
But Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie says Mr Newman was asked specifically about Hannay Lawyers on the Gold Coast, which has advised some of its clients to avoid turning up to court if other bikies are there.
The law firm issued the advice, fearing their clients could be charged under new anti-association laws, which make it illegal for three or more bikies to gather in public.
Mr Bleijie said he was "quite disturbed" by the lawyers' advice and it was part of a fear campaign.
