Blow as Broad is injured

MITCHELL Johnson has inflicted plenty of pain on England already this series, but his toe-crunching yorker to Stuart Broad at the WACA yesterday might prove to be the killer blow.

Broad, the tourist's leading bowler with 14 wickets at 25.21, was sent to hospital for an X-ray after being smashed on the foot and dismissed by the lightning fast delivery from the fired-up Johnson.

The Englishman was absent when his side came out to bowl in Australia's second innings, before being seen bowling a few balls at reduced pace in the nets. He then limped to a car to be taken to hospital.

He returned later but did not take to the field.

There was no news on the injury, with an update expected this morning.

Broad, who took 3-100 in Australia's first dig, claimed 18 wickets at 31.16 in the last Ashes series in England.
