Boatie "forgets to put bung in" and boat sinks

A FISHERMAN capsized at Mackay Harbour this morning after forgetting to put his bung in his tinnie.

A Volunteer Marine Rescue spokesman the man was only about 35m off the end of the main jetty when he started to go under, and VMR was able to recover the tinnie and tow it back to shore.

But he said the man lost all his fishing gear and his phone.

"It's just one of those embarrassing things. Every boatie has a story," he said.

"It wasn't particularly exciting, but it was amusing."

Apart from the minor incident, he said it was a beautiful day out on the water and the regions' anglers were making the most of it.
