Boating safety is focus of operation

BOATING enthusiasts beware, boating safety officers will be out in force across NSW over the weekend conducting on-the-spot-safety checks and cracking down on lifejacket compliance.

Operation Blue Water, a boating safety campaign by NSW Maritime will see a focus on more than 40 coastal bars across NSW.

General manager Howard Glenn reminded skippers that crossing a coastal bar required skill, experience, knowledge of the vessel and proper assessment of the conditions.

“A lifejacket can save your life, but only if you are wearing it,” Mr Glenn said. “Coastal bars are dynamic boating environments due to the constantly changing combination of wind, waves, currents, tides and shoals.”
