Bobcats start favourites

IF you ever wish to watch top hockey, this weekend is right for you.

First-grade women's games start proceedings at Murwillumbah with Casuarina to face Kingscliff at 1pm before Waratahs take on Mullumbimby at 2.25pm.

Waratah Bobcats will then take on Coraki in the men's JH Williams Cup division one major semi-final from about 3.15pm.

The division two major semi-final, with Kingscliff opposing Murwillumbah, hits off from 5.15pm.

Bobcats clash against Coraki promises to be a fast, skilful affair and full of passion.

The two sides always have a crack at each other and hate to lose.

Minor premiers Bobcats will start favourites but Tim Willis needs all his players to be at their best to win this one and go straight to the grand final – a home grand final would be a big bonus.

Waratahs goalkeeper Mitchell Paron needs to bring his A game as Coraki will have plenty of attack.

Midfielders James Walker and Tim Willis will need to consolidate and forwards Peter Irby and Dewayne Newell need to score goals.

Kingscliff's showdown with Murwillumbah game will also be fast and entertaining.

Murwillumbah coach Chris Stuart coach will need Jamie Barrett to take control of this game and if he does, they may have a chance against the speed of Kingscliff's Henry Prichard and company.

Over in Lismore two more men's games are scheduled – in the division one minor semi Northern Star tackle Ballina and then at 2.55pm, Murwillumbah Redbacks playing East Lismore in the division two semi.

Redbacks' record this year indicates they will need some luck to win.

They need to play for the entire 70 minutes – previously they have started well but then fell away late.

Stewart Maloney will need young guns Oliver Crane, Hamish Lomas, Chris Faye, Scott Harbison, Cameron Barnes, Scot Reading and Adam Jarret all to lift and play hard to the end.

In the local women's match this week, Kingscliff and Casuarina are both coming of losses.

Casuarina should be too good for their rivals as it is more polished overall.

The other women's match will be the match of the round with both Waratahs and Mullumbimby coming off good wins.

Mullumbimby is on a real good roll, led by Jo Tunstall who will have to be watched by Waratah Falcons, who are now full of confidence as they now have all their regular players back on the paddock.
