Body found in Hervey Bay yet to be formally identified

UPDATE: Police are yet to formally identify the male body found at a bushland site on Thursday afternoon.

Sergeant Paul Jervis of the Hervey Bay police said the death was not regarded as suspicious as investigations continued on Friday.

EARLIER: The search for a missing man last seen in Hervey Bay six days earlier may have come to a tragic end after a body was found in Urraween.

A body, believed to be that of missing Cooloola Cove man 53-year-old Andrew Mason, was found when a police-led search was made in Urraween near the Wide Bay Institute of TAFE.

The search included crews from the SES, police and officers on quad bikes.

Mr Mason was last seen leaving Hervey Bay Hospital on Saturday evening about 10.25pm.

Police said he may have become disoriented and attempted to travel home.
