Body recovered from Ballina

POLICE yesterday located the body of a 28-year-old Ballina male at Skennars Head.

During an unsuccessful search for the man on Tuesday night a female police officer was badly injured after plunging eight metres onto rocks at dusk.

Police resumed the search for the man early yesterday morning and found his body at 6:40am.

“The body of a 28-year-old male was located on a rock shelf at the base of the headland,” Inspector Greg Moore said.

“He was found to be deceased and was subsequently winched out and airlifted by the lifesaver helicopter.”

There were no suspicious circumstances.

The injured officer was yesterday released from hospital with her right leg in plaster.

“Under the circumstances, she's doing well,” Insp Moore said of the injured officer.
