Bolt puts gold on line over drug claims

ATHLETICS: Champion sprinter Usain Bolt says he will return one of his six Olympic gold medals if a teammate is confirmed as being a drug cheat.

Nesta Carter, who helped Jamaica win Olympic and world titles in the 4x100m relay, returned a positive test for the banned stimulant methylhexanamine in a re-test of 454 samples from the Beijing Games, according to reports. Carter’s “B” sample was also said to have come back positive.

Neither Carter nor his agent has responded to repeated requests for comment on the positive test.

“It’s heartbreaking (the positive test) because over the years you’ve worked hard to accumulate gold medals and work hard to be a champion ... but it’s just one of those things,” Bolt (pictured) said.

“I can’t tell what he’s (Carter) going through, but it must be hard and frustrating.”
