Bookies bet on LNP to win next election

AN ONLINE betting agency is predicting a Malcolm Turnbull led Coalition will win 85 seats to Labor's 61 at next year's federal election.

This is a significant turnaround, with Sportsbet expecting the Coalition to lose 16 seats under former Prime Minister Tony Abbott with the very real prospect of a hung parliament.

The Coalition is now likely to lose a total of five seats, with Petrie, Capricornia, Solomon, Hindmarsh, Bonner and Hasluck expected to go while Clive Palmer's seat of Fairfax will head back to the Coalition.

The remaining cross-benchers including Bob Katter ($1.20), Andrew Wilkie ($1.15), Cathy McGowan ($1.30) and Adam Bandt ($1.20) are expected to hold their seats.

New South Wales is likely to deliver a 1 per cent swing towards the Coalition, while in Victoria the swing to Labor will be 3 per cent, but the Coalition won't lose any of its seats in either state.

In South Australia the swing to Labor is expected to be 4 per cent, with Labor gaining a 5 per cent swing in Queensland and the Northern Territory, and 6 per cent in Western Australia.
