Books of cooks matter of taste
WHEN 4 Ingredients stars Rachael Bermingham and Kim McCosker first came to Tweed for their book signing last year, they only had a taste of what was to come.
Now, more than a year out from their last visit, the Sunshine Coast mums have starred in two series of their own cooking show, released two new books and are planning to tour New Zealand and the UK.
Both will be back in Tweed next Wednesday to sign copies of their new book, 4 Ingredients Gluten Free, which was released yesterday.
Ms Bermingham said both she and Ms McCosker are big fans of the area.
“We've both been coming to the Tweed since we were kids and we've taken holidays with our kids there,” Ms Bermingham said.
“Kim and I both lived around the Gold Coast years ago so we know the area fairly well.”
The concept of 4 Ingredients is every recipe can be cooked using four or fewer ingredients, are most likely found in a common pantry and could be cooked using one cup, one tablespoon or one teaspoon.
The original 4 Ingredients was published in 2007 and sold 355,000 copies across the county - second only to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows as highest selling book for the year.
Mr Bermingham and Ms McCosker said the inspiration for Gluten Free came from their readers.
“We've done over 700 book signings and appearances in the past couple of years and the one thing we are consistently asked is if we have any gluten-free recipes?,” Ms Bermingham said.
“Kim and I started looking into it and found that one in 100 people are diagnosed as gluten intolerant but we believe it's more like one in five people.
“Initially we were led to believe that a gluten-free diet was boring and bland, but we can happily say that it's far from it.”
The new book will include recipes such as chorizo and capsicum soup, prawn and mango salad, raspberry and almond cake, beer stir fry and homemade gnocchi.
Ms Bermingham and Ms McCosker will be at Collins Booksellers at Centro Tweed in Tweed Heads next Wednesday from noon to 1pm to promote their new book.
