Bowen Basin solar farm may be on Adani radar

ISAAC Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker believes the Bowen Basin would be "an ideal location" for a rumoured Adani Enterprises solar farm.

Her comments follow a report last week by RenewEconomy that said Adani Enterprises, the company better known for its controversial Carmichael coal mine, was looking at solar projects at Crinum Creek and Rugby Run in central Queensland.

Although the council has not met formally with Adani about the venture, Cr Baker said it was "exciting to hear Adani has identified a solar site at Rugby Run and council welcomes this potential investment into the region".

An Adani Enterprises spokesman confirmed the company had looked at several solar opportunities throughout Australia, but did not want to provide further details about specific opportunities in, or close to, the Bowen Basin.

"This reflects both Adani's commitment as a diversified energy and infrastructure company in India and a leading solar generator in that market, and the company's plans to build a long-term future with Australia," he said.

"Coupled with the company's several billion dollars of investment to date across its mine, rail and port projects in Queensland, Adani's plans to pursue solar investment opportunities reflect the confidence the company has in the Australian market.

"Adani will update the market on progress of these opportunities as and when they develop further."
