A FOUR-year-old boy has tragically died after being found floating face down in a Sunshine Coast creek.

The boy was reported missing from his home in Wurtulla about 7.30pm on Wednesday.

A patrol of the nearby area by the Queensland Police Service found the child in a nearby creek, which runs off Currimundi Lake.

"Police attempted to retrieve the child however were unable to do so," a QPS spokeswoman said.

"The child was transferred to Nambour General Hospital but was pronounced deceased."
