Bragging rights up for grabs between coaches

RUGBY LEAGUE: Tweed Coast could land a physiological blow to their rivals this weekend with a victory over Ballina Seagulls.

The two grand finalists sit level on 10 competition points going into this Sunday's round-seven clash, with a win ensuring they will go to the top of the ladder.

The Raiders are coming off the bye, which is going to be an advantage for them, according to captain Guy Lanston.

"We had some momentum from the previous game against Murwillumbah so would have been good to keep that going but it's always good to get the week off and rest the bodies,” Lanston said.

"It would be an important win in the sense it would get us two points in front of Ballina on the ladder but also to give us a bit more confidence moving forward, with a couple of tough games coming up.”

While the Raiders captain said his team was not putting any added importance onto the fixture, he believed the two coaches would be very keen to claim bragging rights over each other.

"(It's) probably more important we win for Brent Kite so he has the bragging rights over Ballina coach and former Manly (Seagulls) teammate Jamie Lyon,” he said.

"Last year's games were very close all year and it seems Ballina have started the year fairly strong.

"So I don't think there will be much separating either team.”

Both teams have gone through personnel changes since last season's title decider but have continued their winning form.

Lanston said Ballina was going to be a test but believed his side was up to the challenge.

"Ballina are a strong team all over the park, we know we just can't worry about their young, quick players on the edge as they have a quality pack as well,” he said.

"I think it's more stopping their go-forward in the middle so their quick outside backs don't have much to play off.”

Kick-off for Sunday's clash at Les Burger Oval, Cabarita, will be at 2.45pm.
