Break-in at South Tweed St Vinnies
A CHARITY organisation was the target of a break-in early yesterday morning.
St Vincent De Paul's store on Industry Dr, Tweed Heads South, was broken into about 12.45am yesterday but there was no evidence that anything was taken.
Store volunteer Sandra Talbot said entry was gained into the charity shop by smashing through a side door.
"We noticed it about 8am this morning when we came into work," Ms Talbot said.
"We had been very lucky up to this stage. They have only gone for the bins before."
The spokeswoman said it was only a matter of time before they were targeted, with several businesses in the area already the target of thieves.
"It's frustrating more than anything," Ms Talbot said.
"We are volunteers here ... and to have something like this happening.
"Obviously what we had they didn't want. We have clothing, bric-a-brac and some food in the shop."
A St Vincent De Paul's NSW spokeswoman said it was unfortunate that a charity should be targeted in this type of crime.
"Police are investigating the incident and Vinnies will assist the police with their investigation in any way possible," the spokeswoman said.
"Vinnies continue to improve security at their stores, including the installation of alarm systems and CCTV."
Anyone with information into the break-in at St Vincent De Paul's at Tweed Heads South should contact police through Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
