UPDATE: Chopper stood down after search for gunman

THE Pol Air chopper has been stood down and will return to Brisbane after a dramatic two-hour search for a suspected gunman in Maroochydore.
It is not yet known if the gunman has been located.
Earlier efforts by police were hampered by a resident allegedly shining a green laser at the chopper. One man is understood to be in custody for this.

EARLIER
POLICE are searching the Maroochydore area for a man who reportedly approached a gym owner with a handgun this evening.
The gunman was reportedly seen in Trinder Ave about 6.30pm.
Police are searching the Sugar Road area following a possible sighting.
A Pol Air helicopter has been brought in to help in the search.
The man was described as about 50 years old, wearing a green shirt, green pants, and sunglasses, and possibly under the influence of a substance.
Police officers now have to visit a property in the area after reports residents were dangerously shining a green laser at the chopper.
