Brierfield thrilled their bridge is back
BELLINGEN Council has reconnected its southern rural residents, by reopening Hanley's Bridge on Bowraville Rd in Brierfield on time and on budget.
Mayor Cr Mark Troys said the bridge's reconstruction was a result of pile failure late last year.
"Council has invested around $450,000 to re-pile and re-deck the bridge, as well as repairing bank damage incurred in a previous flood," Cr Troy said.
"Councillors and staff have worked closely with Brierfield residents since the closure of the bridge and in particular the BOB (Bridging our Brierfield) group to ensure works were completed as quickly as possible," Cr Troy said.
"Communication lines were open and residents kept informed via a number of community meetings and regular newsletters, the school bus service continued and the alternative route via Martells Road was regularly maintained."
General manager Liz Jeremy thanked the residents for their patience and understanding during the project.
In particular she thanked the local BOB group for their hard work in connecting with the community.
