My Kitchen Rules Tugun lads to start school cooking show
MY Kitchen Rules competitors Paul Bullpit and Blair Tonkin have plans to run their own school-sized version of the cooking show.
"We might call it My Classroom Rules," he said.
The two school teachers have enjoyed inspiring their students so far, so the idea to get them in on the action seems only natural.
Mr Bullpit said it was rewarding to influence the way people view food.
"Often we're trying to change the way kids think of food, but we need to 'brainwash' the parents before we can have any affect on the kids," he said.
Mr Bullpit said he and Blair were surprised by the diversity of their audience.
"It's clear it's not just housewives," he laughed.
"Lots of kids are into their cooking."
The physical education teacher said his Coombabah High students had been hugely supportive, even trying their recipes from the show.
The two men made their mark this week, when they won their first people's choice challenge on the Channel Seven reality TV show.
Mr Bullpit said the success of their cheesy bacon and egg pies was a welcome surprise.
"We were blown away," he said.
"It was our first challenge, so we weren't sure how it would go."
Mr Bullpit said they didn't know what to expect from Sydney's Central Station - where contestants served breakfast to hungry commuters.
"We didn't know if it would be mostly tradies, or businesspeople," he said.
Still, the duo impressed the people of Sydney - all while helping out Deb and Rick, who were low on ricotta.
"They're just good people and good friends of ours, so it seemed like the right thing to do - or they would have been stuffed," Mr Bullpit said.
He said winning the people's choice challenge has left their confidence a bit higher.
"We didn't back ourselves, but winning the challenge has shown us we can really cook and deserve to be in the competition," he said.
Mr Bullpit said the local area had some great spots for foodies to hang out; he said Little Malaya was his long-time favourite restaurant, while Mr Tonkin loves Burleigh tapas joint, Willow.
"My wife and I had our very first date there, and we keep going back," Mr Bullpit said.
