Bronze for Bronte
AUSTRALIA'S Bronte Barratt claimed bronze in the women's 200 metres freestyle behind winner Allison Schmitt at the London Olympics.
American Schmitt streeted the field to clock an Olympic record of one minute, 53.61 seconds, with Frenchwoman Camille Muffatt (1:55.58) taking silver.
Barratt finished in 1:55.81, edging out American Missy Franklin for bronze by a hundredth of a second.
Barratt said she did not even realise how close she was to Franklin in lane eight.
"I looked up afterwards and saw 0.01 on Missy Franklin and gosh I'm lucky I didn't breathe like 10 metres out," Barratt said.
