Buckle bungles tour shot

A HORROR back nine meltdown cost Australian golfer Andrew Buckle a chance to secure his return to the US PGA Tour in 2010.

The 27-year-old Queenslander was tied for the lead going into the final round of the Miccosukee Championship in Florida, the last full field event of the secondary Nationwide Tour.

Sitting just outside the top 25 on the money list, Buckle was perfectly placed to secure promotion in the tour's penultimate event.

Instead, after reaching the 11th hole even par for the day, he collapsed spectacularly with two double bogeys and five bogeys in eight holes to shoot 80, finishing tied 32nd for $US3687.

Buckle now heads to this week's season-ending Nationwide Tour Championship in South Carolina as one of four Australians poised around the top 25 cut-off line for PGA Tour cards.

Michael Sim and Cameron Percy are guaranteed spots, but Alastair Presnell is No.25, Tweed's Scott Gardiner is No.26, Buckle is No.27 and Gavin Coles in No.28.
